Montpellier, France

Mathieu Karsenti is an artist whose pictorial work is closely connected to his musical compositions. Rhythm lies at the heart of his textured and polymorphic universe, expressed through an abstract impressionist style.

Visual Career:
After earning a Baccalauréat F12 in Applied Arts in Nîmes and a BA (Hons) in Furniture Design and Technology in London, Mathieu developed a visual language alongside his career as a composer. Through various mediums—ranging from collage and pencil to ink and watercolor—he translates his composing voice into images.
Blocks of color harmonize in counterpoint with fluid spaces, while rhythmic brushstrokes play across the open surfaces of the paper. Much like his musical projects, Mathieu composes inner landscapes, leaving his impressions open to interpretation.
Due to the demands of his musical career, he has exhibited relatively little. Since 2017, Mathieu has increasingly dedicated himself to visual art, focusing on his strengths: fast-drying water-based painting techniques, which sharpen a spontaneous gesture and encourage a fluidity of movement.
