Issues

STRATUM Journal publishes seasonal issues across contemporary art, performance, visual culture, moving image, curatorial practice, artistic research, and critical humanities.

Each issue brings together peer-reviewed research articles, editorially reviewed essays, reviews, interviews, artist features, field notes, and selected experimental forms. Issues are organized to support long-term access, citation, thematic reading, and a public record of contemporary artistic and critical practice.

Issue 002: Soil / 土壤

Current Issue

Online

English / Chinese

Issue 002 takes soil as both ground and method. Across essays, conversations, and artist-centered features, the issue approaches soil as a cultural structure that stores residue, produces nourishment, buries experience, and allows memory to grow again in another form. The works gathered here move across internet culture, digital vernacular memory, feminist disability, bodily archives, dirt, legibility, sound, listening, and artistic practice. Together, they ask how what remains below the surface continues to support, pressure, and rewrite the present.

STRATUM’s first issue gathers early essays, conversations, and artist-centered writing around the moment before artistic work settles into fixed categories, disciplines, or institutional language.

How STRATUM Issues Are Organized

STRATUM publishes by issue and by section.

Issues provide a seasonal editorial frame for the journal. Sections identify the review model, form, and editorial function of each publication.

Research Articles are peer-reviewed. Critical Essays, Reviews, Interviews & Conversations, Artist Features & Portfolios, Field Notes & Public Discourse, and Experimental Writing & Series are editorially reviewed.

This issue-based structure allows STRATUM to support both scholarly citation and cross-disciplinary reading across artistic practice, criticism, research, documentation, and public discourse.
