All published content is freely available online to readers without subscription fees, paywalls, or institutional access requirements. Readers may access, read, cite, and share STRATUM publications according to the terms stated on each article or publication page.

Access to Published Content

STRATUM provides free online access to published articles, essays, reviews, interviews, artist features, portfolios, field notes, and selected experimental writing.

Readers do not need to pay a subscription fee or create an account to access published content.

STRATUM is committed to widening access to contemporary art, performance, visual culture, moving image, curatorial practice, artistic research, and critical humanities.

Author Rights and Copyright

Unless otherwise stated, authors retain copyright in their written work.

By publishing with STRATUM, authors grant the journal the right to publish, archive, display, and distribute the work as part of STRATUM Journal and ELSEHERE International Arts Nexus.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions are original and that all necessary permissions have been secured for quoted materials, images, media, documentation, archival materials, translations, and other third-party content.

Licensing

STRATUM is developing a consistent licensing framework for its open-access publications.

Unless a specific Creative Commons license or rights statement is indicated on an article page, reuse of STRATUM content requires proper attribution and must respect the rights of the author, artist, photographer, translator, archive, institution, or other rights holder.

STRATUM may apply different rights statements to different types of material, especially when a publication includes images, film stills, installation views, performance documentation, archival materials, screenshots, or other third-party media.

Images, Media, and Third-Party Materials

Open access to an article does not automatically mean that all images, media, or third-party materials included in that article may be reused freely.

Images, film stills, installation views, performance documentation, archival materials, screenshots, diagrams, audio-visual materials, and other media may be subject to separate copyright or permission restrictions.

Authors are responsible for securing permissions for images and media included in their submissions. STRATUM will publish captions, credits, and courtesy lines where applicable.

Readers who wish to reuse images or third-party materials should contact the relevant rights holder unless the article clearly states that reuse is permitted.

Article Sharing and Citation

Readers are encouraged to cite and share STRATUM publications with proper attribution.

A citation should include the author name, article title, journal title, publication date, and stable URL when available.

Suggested citation format:

Author Last Name, First Name. “Article Title.” STRATUM Journal, publication date. URL.

STRATUM supports the long-term visibility and circulation of published work through clear attribution, stable article pages, and issue-based archiving.

Costs and Access

STRATUM Journal provides free online access to published content. Readers are not charged subscription fees or access fees.

STRATUM may request modest support fees for selected submissions, open calls, special issues, or editorial programs in order to help cover basic editorial, administrative, design, web, and publication costs. Any applicable fee will be clearly stated before submission.

Fees do not guarantee acceptance, publication, favorable review, or editorial placement. All submissions are evaluated according to STRATUM’s aims and scope, review process, editorial standards, and publication capacity.

STRATUM aims to keep publication-related costs transparent and accessible. Reduced fees or fee waivers may be considered when possible.

Archiving and Long-Term Access

STRATUM aims to maintain stable access to published content through its website and issue archive.

Published work is organized by issue, section, author, and theme where applicable. STRATUM is developing its journal infrastructure to support stronger citation, metadata, discoverability, and long-term access.

If a published page is updated, corrected, or moved, STRATUM will make reasonable efforts to preserve access or provide a clear redirect.

Self-Archiving

Authors may share links to their published STRATUM work on personal websites, institutional profiles, portfolios, CVs, ORCID profiles, research pages, and social platforms.

Authors may also reference their STRATUM publications in grant applications, teaching materials, artist dossiers, research statements, and professional materials.

When sharing or archiving STRATUM publications, authors should include full citation information and link to the published version on STRATUM Journal.

Corrections and Updates

Open access does not remove the need for editorial responsibility.

If a published work contains factual errors, citation errors, missing credits, metadata errors, broken links, or other issues requiring correction, STRATUM may update the article and, where appropriate, include a correction note.

For more serious ethical concerns, STRATUM may issue an editorial notice or retraction according to its Publication Ethics policy.
