A few STRATUM updates from ELSEHERE

STRATUM has been growing quietly, and we wanted to share a few updates with you.

Over the past few weeks, we have been refining the STRATUM website and building a clearer journal structure around it. STRATUM began as an editorial space for artists, writers, researchers, and cultural practitioners whose work moves between categories. That spirit has not changed.

What has changed is the structure around it.

We have added and clarified several journal pages, including About the Journal, Aims & Scope, Editorial Board, Peer Review Policy, Publication Ethics, Author Guidelines, Open Access Policy, Current Issue, and Issues Archive. These pages help STRATUM become more transparent, more readable, and more sustainable as an open-access journal for art, culture, and the humanities.

Our aim is not to make STRATUM narrow, closed, or inaccessible. We are not interested in reproducing the kind of academic gatekeeping that makes many important forms of knowledge feel unwelcome. STRATUM will continue to make space for artists, critics, curators, writers, researchers, and interdisciplinary practitioners working across essay, conversation, review, field note, artist portfolio, visual material, and experimental writing.

At the same time, we are taking the work of publishing seriously. Accessibility does not mean lack of rigor. Openness does not mean lack of care. We want STRATUM to be a place where different forms of knowledge can be read with attention, edited with respect, and held within a structure that supports citation, documentation, and long-term cultural presence.

You are invited to explore the updated STRATUM pages and spend time with the current issue, Issue 002: Soil / 土壤.

We are also excited to share that STRATUM Issue 003: Commons / 共有之地 is now open for submissions. This issue invites writing and artistic research around shared ground, public space, access, exclusion, maintenance, care, collective resources, and the fragile structures that sustain common life.

In addition, submissions are now open for Entangled Garden | New York City Experimental Arts Festival 2026, presented by ELSEHERE and hosted at Le Petit Versailles in New York City. We welcome proposals across live performance, moving image, installation, sound, site-responsive practice, and interdisciplinary forms.

Thank you for being part of this growing community. STRATUM is still becoming, but it is becoming with more clarity now: open, careful, plural, and committed to the long life of artistic and critical work.
