Expression of Interest
STRATUM Journal Advisory Board and Peer Review Network — Expression of Interest
DEADLINE
October 31, 2026
THE CALL
Expressions of Interest
STRATUM Advisory Board and Peer Review Network
STRATUM Journal welcomes expressions of interest from scholars, artist-researchers, curators, critics, editors, cultural practitioners, and interdisciplinary researchers who wish to support the journal’s ongoing artistic, scholarly, and editorial development.
STRATUM Journal is an international open-access journal of art, culture, and the humanities, published by ELSEHERE International Arts Nexus. The journal publishes work across contemporary art, performance, visual culture, moving image, curatorial practice, artistic research, and critical humanities.
As STRATUM continues to build its editorial infrastructure, we are developing two forms of external participation: an Advisory Board and a Peer Review Network.
Before submitting an expression of interest, we encourage prospective participants to review About the Journal and Aims & Scope to understand STRATUM’s editorial orientation, publication areas, and intellectual framework.
Advisory Board
The Advisory Board supports STRATUM’s broader artistic, curatorial, institutional, public-facing, and cultural development.
Advisory Board members may offer field insight, strategic guidance, public programming perspective, institutional connections, international networks, artist and writer recommendations, special issue ideas, and long-term support for the journal’s growth.
Advisory Board members do not automatically participate in peer review unless separately invited for a specific submission, issue, or editorial project.
We welcome expressions of interest from artists, curators, cultural organizers, publishers, editors, institutional workers, arts administrators, scholars, researchers, and practitioners whose work aligns with STRATUM’s mission.
Peer Review Network
The Peer Review Network supports STRATUM’s peer-reviewed Research Articles section.
Peer reviewers may be invited to review submissions according to their field, method, language, and area of expertise. Reviewers are asked to provide fair, constructive, confidential, and field-informed feedback.
Joining the Peer Review Network does not guarantee immediate review assignments. Review invitations are made according to submission needs, editorial fit, publication priorities, and reviewer availability.
We welcome expressions of interest from scholars, artist-researchers, curators, critics, editors, and practitioners with relevant expertise in contemporary art, performance studies, dance studies, visual culture, moving image, curatorial studies, artistic research, media culture, critical theory, postcolonial and decolonial methodologies, diaspora, embodiment, cultural memory, public space, feminist and queer perspectives, disability aesthetics, ecology, translation, and global arts and humanities.
What We Are Looking For
STRATUM is especially interested in people who can engage artistic and scholarly work with both rigor and openness.
We value participants who understand research standards, citation ethics, editorial care, and peer review responsibility, but who also recognize that knowledge may emerge through artistic practice, curatorial work, performance, image-making, documentation, translation, embodied experience, and situated cultural practice.
STRATUM is committed to building a plural, cross-cultural, and intellectually serious publication environment. We welcome perspectives that can help the journal remain rigorous without becoming narrow, open without becoming loose, and accessible without losing depth.
Participation
Advisory and peer review roles are service-based and voluntary.
Expressions of interest are reviewed by STRATUM’s editorial leadership. Participation may be considered according to field expertise, editorial needs, language capacity, publication priorities, and the journal’s current stage of development.
Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee appointment to the Advisory Board or inclusion in the Peer Review Network.

What We Are Looking For
Clarity of direction
We look for submissions, proposals, and expressions of interest that show a clear sense of purpose, context, and relation to the opportunity.
Rigor and care
We value work that is thoughtfully developed, carefully presented, and attentive to the responsibilities of artistic, scholarly, editorial, or public-facing practice.
Distinct perspective
We are interested in voices, practices, and proposals that bring a specific position, method, language, or field of experience into view.
Openness to complexity
ELSEHERE welcomes work that can hold tension, ambiguity, research, experimentation, and layered meaning without becoming vague or unfocused.
Relevance to context
Each opportunity has its own framework. We encourage applicants and contributors to read the full call carefully and consider how their work, experience, or proposal enters that specific context.
Before You Submit
Please review the full opportunity description before submitting. Each call, program, or expression of interest may have its own eligibility, format, deadline, review process, and required materials.
Depending on the opportunity, you may be asked to provide:
-
basic contact and professional information
-
a short bio or practice statement
-
a project description, proposal, manuscript, work sample, or statement of interest
-
links to relevant work, publications, portfolios, websites, or profiles
-
technical, spatial, editorial, or contextual information where applicable
-
any additional materials requested in the specific call
-
Please submit materials that are clear, relevant, and carefully selected. Strong submission materials do not need to be excessive. They should help us understand the work, practice, experience, or proposal on its own terms and in relation to the opportunity.
Incomplete, unclear, or unrelated submissions may be difficult to review.
Review & Consideration
Submissions and expressions of interest are reviewed according to the specific purpose of each opportunity.
Depending on the context, review may consider artistic strength, conceptual clarity, scholarly rigor, editorial fit, feasibility, field expertise, language capacity, professional experience, public relevance, and alignment with ELSEHERE or STRATUM’s current programs and publication priorities.
Selection, invitation, publication, or participation is not guaranteed. Some opportunities may involve further communication, additional materials, interviews, technical review, editorial review, or confirmation before final decisions are made.
ELSEHERE approaches review as a process of attention, not only selection. We are interested in how artistic, scholarly, and cultural practices may enter wider fields of relation, publication, public presentation, and future development.
