RUINS

RUINS

2014
OURIKA, MOROCCO

The video was shot on the outskirts of Marrakech, in an abandoned farm with the
architecture and atmosphere of a riad. The space is empty, worn, and partially in ruin.
The camera follows a child running through the site, as if engaged in a game of hide and
seek. Movement suggests play, pursuit, and expectation, but nothing is ever found. Rooms
open onto other empty rooms, corridors lead nowhere, and the space remains silent and
deserted.

The camera stays close, trailing the child without catching up. What begins as a game
slowly reveals itself as a passage through absence. The setting offers no refuge, no
encounter, no resolution — only the repetition of thresholds and the persistence of motion.
The video ends on a window closing. It is a simple gesture that interrupts the chase and
seals the space. The game does not conclude; it is cut off. What remains is the sensation
of having searched for something that was never there.
