"My visual language is deeply rooted in the soil of my hometown, Zhangye, China. Growing up at the foot of the 'Rainbow Mountains' (Danxia), the unique spectrum of vermillion, ochre, and rust found in these ancient landforms has shaped how I perceive color.
This project is a dialogue between that geological memory and digital fluidity.
Using TouchDesigner, I extracted the raw color data from high-resolution footage of the sedimentary rock layers. By feeding this data into a custom feedback and turbulence system, I 'melted' the solid mountains into a living, breathing fluid.
The result is a fusion of the ancient and the futuristic. I am taking sediment accumulated over 24 million years and giving it a new digital life—transforming the static pressure of geology into a dynamic, pixelated flow. It asks the question: What if we could see the eons of time that shaped my home compressed into a single, fluid second?"
