Zhang Shuo’s portfolio spans dance theater, drama, musical theater, live events, and large scale outdoor productions. In dance, he has designed lighting for works such as the ethnic dance dramas “Hehuang,” “Not a True Hero Until You Reach the Great Wall,” “Leisurely Affection,” the contemporary dance drama “At That Time,” and the modern dance piece “Twin Cities,” as well as numerous repertory dance works. His theatrical projects include lighting for plays such as “Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty” and “Awaiting Punishment,” and musicals including “Cat City,” “Oriental, You Are the Only One,” and “Meeting You Is My Destiny.”

He has served as lighting designer for major galas and cultural events including the opening ceremony of the 2019 Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations program “Asian Film and TV Week,” the State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office tour “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring,” large scale concerts such as the Xu Jingqing Journey to the West musical concert and QQ Music “Music Run,” as well as tourism and outdoor spectaculars like “Yichang Story,” “Splendor of the Western River,” “Dunhuang Splendor 2.0,” and the Peking Opera showcase at the Forbidden City’s Changyin Pavilion during the Trump state visit. His recent work also extends into video based projects, including “Boundless” and “The Quiet Sea.”
